Empowering PEI Through FASD Education, Awareness and Advocacy

At The Brainery, we are dedicated to fostering meaningful conversations about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) across Prince Edward Island. Our mission is to provide comprehensive education that empowers individuals, communities, schools, and organizations with the knowledge and tools needed to better understand and support those affected by FASD. We are passionate about being actively involved in local research initiatives and advocacy efforts to improve the lives of people affected by FASD. Through collaboration and informed action, we strive to create a more inclusive and supportive environment across the province.
The Brainery is founded by two FASD subject matter experts, each with over 15 years of experience in the fields of mental health and addictions. We have significant experience working with First Nations communities, as well as schools, correctional facilities, and various government and NGO programs and services. With strong backgrounds in education, program development, advocacy, and policy advising, we are committed to advancing FASD awareness and support through informed, inclusive, and collaborative approaches.
We offer FASD training tailored to meet the unique needs of your team or organization. Whether you're looking for a general overview or a deeper dive, our sessions cover all the basics—including how FASD occurs, its prevalence, common symptoms, and the strengths and challenges individuals may experience. We also provide practical, evidence-informed strategies for support, especially in educational and care settings. Training can be customized to fit your goals and delivered within your preferred timeframe in person or virtually.
We offer classroom consultation services designed to help you create a supportive and inclusive learning environment through an FASD-informed lens. By identifying and minimizing unnecessary stimuli, we work with you to design a calm, welcoming space that promotes focus, reduces overwhelm, and supports the success of all students.
We offer in-depth professional development opportunities that go beyond foundational FASD knowledge to provide a deeper understanding of the complexities of the disorder. These sessions explore topics such as brain-based approaches, co-occurring conditions, effective support strategies, and adapting practices across educational, clinical, and community settings. Designed for professionals looking to enhance their skills and confidence in supporting individuals with FASD, our training is tailored to meet the specific goals and needs of your team.
We are currently seeking students interested in partnering with us to conduct research on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) on Prince Edward Island.
